This sad story is an illustration of what can happen when people don’t read warning labels. A man in Austria was attempting to use ethanol as an insect repellent when it ignited, severely burning his wife. I’ve never heard of alcohol being used as an insect repellent, but it doesn’t surprise me. I have heard of people using rubbing alcohol to kill bedbugs, and I don’t recommend it for exactly this reason. Alcohol is very flammable, especially at high concentrations, and should be handled very carefully. Bedbugs are a bad thing to have, but they’re still better than setting yourself, or your property, on fire.
